International activities

The Deepwater Horizon accident has attracted great attention worldwide, and led to a number of initiatives by the industry and the authorities.

The Norwegian Oil and Gas Association project is also following developments in the international arena in order to ensure the best possible experience transfer and learning.

Brief overview over international initiatives:

International organisation of oil and gas producers (OGP)
In response to accidents such as Macondo and Montara, the leadership of the international oil and gas industry has worked together to develop recommendations for improving well incident prevention, intervention and response capability. In July 2010, OGP established the Global Industry Response Group (GIRG) to learn from the factors involved in these events and to reduce materially the likelihood and consequences of future incidents.

Subsea Well Response Project
The Subsea Well Response Project (SWRP) is a non-profit joint initiative of nine major oil and gas companies, working together to enhance the industry’s capacity to better respond to subsea well-control incidents.
