Offshore pay negotiations: Mediation has commenced

Mediation has commenced between Offshore Norge and the unions Styrke, Safe and Lederne, covering approximately 8.000 employees on the Norwegian continental shelf.

The parties did not reach an agreement during negotiations on the shelf collective agreements in April, and the settlement was therefore referred to mediation. Mediation began today at the National Mediator in Oslo.

– We have confidence in constructive dialogue and hope to reach an agreement. It is important the wage development among offshore employees is in line with the rest of society. We therefore adhere to the lead sector model, which safeguards Norwegian competitiveness by preventing wage levels from undermining export-oriented industries operating in international markets, says Elisabeth Brattebø Fenne, lead negotiator and director for employer policy at Offshore Norge.

Notice of strike affecting 617 members

The three unions have given notice of strike action involving a total of 617 members should mediation fail to produce a settlement. These members are employed by Equinor, Aker BP, ConocoPhillips and OKEA on the fields Statfjord A, Oseberg Øst/B/C, Ula, Ekofisk and Draugen.

The trade union Styrke has notified strike action involving 76 operator employees in Equinor working on Statfjord A and Oseberg Øst, 72 operator employees in Aker BP on Ula, and 17 operator employees in OKEA on Draugen. Within drilling, 112 members employed by Helmerich & Payne working on Oseberg Øst, B and C are included. In addition, 28 catering personnel employed by Coor and ESS on Statfjord A and Ula are covered by the notice.

The Norwegian Union of Energy Workers (Safe) has given notice affecting 57 operator employees in Equinor on Statfjord A and Oseberg Øst, 8 employees in Aker BP on Ula, and 43 employees in OKEA on Draugen. Within drilling, 99 Helmerich & Payne employees on Oseberg Øst, B and C are included. In catering, the notice covers 8 Coor employees on Statfjord A and 3 ESS employees on Ula.

The Norwegian Organisation of Managers and Executives (Lederne) has notified strike action involving 44 operator employees in Equinor on Statfjord A and Oseberg Øst. A further 29 operator employees in OKEA on Draugen, as well as 21 employees in ConocoPhillips on Ekofisk 2/4K, are included in the notice.

Potential consequences if there is a strike

A strike could result in reduced production from the affected fields.
Based on the notified walkouts, approximately 45.500 barrels of oil equivalent per day could be impacted.

Around 8.000 organised employees within operations, drilling and catering are covered by the shelf collective agreements. These employees work for Equinor ASA, ConocoPhillips Norge, Aker BP ASA, OKEA ASA, Vår Energi ASA, Repsol Norge AS, KCA Deutag Drilling Norge AS, Sodexo Remote Sites Norway AS, ESS Support Services AS, Coor Service Management AS and 4Service Offshore Hotels AS.
